Rural Chaplaincy
Meet Kim Jaeger
Kim is an ordained minister with the Presbyterian Church of Australia, working in the Midlands of Tasmania as a Rural Chaplain.
Kim aims to provide Christian care and spiritual support to Tasmanians living in rural and remote areas.
Through the Presbyterian Church of Tasmania, he demonstrates the character of God by providing hope and care for those in ‘the bush’, reaching out in a way that shows empathy, mercy and explores spirituality.
With a slower pace of life, peaceful rural countryside, spectacular coastlines, incredible scenery and remote and rugged wilderness, Tasmania offers many lifestyle benefits. On the other hand, as most of the state is considered rural or remote, many people living in these areas are some distance from city services, including schools, jobs, medical care, churches, sporting groups and social clubs. This sometimes contributes to social disadvantage, isolation, and loneliness. A rural chaplain is on the road all year, providing pastoral and spiritual support to vulnerable Tasmanians in rural and remote areas. The chaplain is a friend in the bush, someone to have a cuppa with and have a chat to.
In addition to direct support, Rural Chaplains work with community-based services, churches and other community supports to seek to build a network of care around individuals providing the best chance for people to move forward in life. Rural Chaplains can also provide critical emergency response in cases of disaster, such as pandemics, fires and floods.
